reservation
in the spirit of accomplishing things, i just emailed off my school booking form as well. now i just need to find out how to pay for things in pounds rather than dollars.
flight
After some hard work searching multiple airline booking sites, i seemed to have booked a flight to Africa this morning. I was very excited this morning also because the one that came up this morning has me traveling through JFK and not Atlanta (yay) and also that the trip time was down from 17+ hours to 10+ hours. (I still can't quite wrap my brain around the fact that it will take 2 days to travel.)
Interestingly enough, immediately after booking this flight, i attended an in school African drumming/dancing performance. While there was this man in a costume on stilts that scared our students to tears, the performances were amazing and i got really excited thinking about how i will be learning to improve my own skills.

airlines
while contacting the school and reserving a spot seems to be straight-forward and simple, it seems as though booking a flight is not. after much searching and figuring out how to schedule for two days of plane travel on both ends without going into the week of school training, the site took me over to orbitz. where upon clicking the "choose" button, i received multiple error messages. if you're going to advertise the flights as an option, then i should be able to purchase said option. i am now frustrated.
grants
In trying to complete the necessary paperwork for two science grants, it seems i need to propel myself into the arrangements for my trip to the gambia. I just contacted the school and by using their website, i am again reminded of how amazing this opportunity will be for me.

A new blog for a new adventure!
When i opened the letter from Fund For Teachers congratulating me on receiving the grant, i started jumping up and down. While i was really hoping that i would be awarded the grant, part of me thought that a small envelope confirmed that i had not received the grant. But instead i was ecstatic enough to jump from reading the text of the letter.
I am so thankful for this opportunity to travel to the Gambia in Africa this summer to learn how to drum. This has been a dream of mine that now can be a reality. It will certainly change my life and even more the lives of my students.
So thank you Fund For Teachers for this amazing chance to follow a dream.
And on with a blog to chronicle the adventure...
:)
